The D7000 boasts 16.2 megapixels, excellent for tight cropping and large prints, it also offers the second highest resolution out of all the Nikon DSLRs. Upgrades on the D7000 include a great optical fixed eye level pentaprism viewfinder and streamlined operations and controls. An interesting new feature is the double SDXC/SD/SDHC compatible card slots which can be configured into overflow, backup, raw vs. jpeg, or video vs. still. The three inch TFT LCD screen is a great feature on this camera as well.
The autofocus feature consists of a 39 area TTL phase detection and features AE/AF controls like Dynamic-Area AF, 3D tracking AF (tracking by subject color), Auto-Area AF, and face priority AF.
The D7000 offers a new 2016 pixel metering system, ISO sensitivity from 100-6400, and an electronically controlled vertical travel focal plane shutter with a minimum shutter speed of 30 seconds and maximum at 1/8000 second.
This camera offers a plethora of shooting programs including: candle, sports, sunset, beach/snow, party/indoor, low/high key, silhouette, and several others. In-camera special effects are another perk offered by the D7000, to name a few: miniature, vivid, fisheye, monochrome, color outline, and color sketch. You also have the ability to make in-camera adjustments by sharpening, contrast, saturation, and hue.
The D7000 offers a variety of white balance options including twelve manual modes, auto, incandescent, fluorescent, direct sunlight, flash, cloudy, and shade. White balance fine tuning is available in all modes except preset manual.
The flash on the D7000 is a TTL flash utilizing a 2016-segment sensor, with an i-TTL balanced fill-in flash.
