The GoPro Hero is a camera system that can be mounted on a vehicle or a driver and records high definition video as well as still images.

The HERO comes with a tough shockproof housing that is also waterproof making it an option for kayakers, rafters or even divers. The Motorsports version of the GoPro HERO comes with a variety of mounting systems such as a suction cup for mounting on windshields and a system that allows for attaching the device to a helmet.

The GoPro can also be mounted anywhere on any type of vehicle at just about every possible recording angle.The GoPro HERO uses a rechargeable lithium battery which can power the device for up to two and a half hours.

The camera can be charged through the included mini-USB power/data cable. The HERO has a very simple user interface consisting of only a power/mode select button and a shutter button. All functions are controlled using these two buttons. The front of the camera also holds a tiny LCD display that gives useful statistics like the charge of battery remaining and what mode the camera is shooting in.Video is captured directly to a removable SD card where each minute of video will take up about 100MB of memory on average.

SDHC cards of up to 32GB are supported by the GoPro HERO allowing for about 5 hours of video when using a 32GB card. Video is captured as H.264 MP4 files and users can choose from 1080p videos captured at 30fps, or 720p video captured at 60fps. Other video options include a “tall” 960p mode and a lower resolution WVGA mode. Still photos can also be captured at 5 megapixel resolution and the camera can be set to automatically take pictures at intervals between 60 and 2 seconds.

The video quality is true HD and looks great not just on computer monitors, but large screen TVs as well. Overall, it packs a great amount of performance in a package about the size of a pack of cigarettes.
